Tonight I watched a movie called Dog By Dog. It is a documentary about the inhumanity of puppy mills. My heart broke several times as I watched this movie. Especially when I learned that the parents of the puppies sold are kept their whole lives and more often than not they don't get to feel the sunshine on their face nor fresh, outside air. Not only that, but they also don't receive regular veterinary care, if any. Additionally, the dogs in puppy mills are stacked in cramped cages with painful wire bottoms. One of the stories that particularly stood out to me was a story about a labrador that had been in a puppy mill all its life and, consequently, had never set foot on a surface other than a wire cage. The moment he was set down on a hard, solid surface he walked around funny. Then he tried to climb a wall. Can you imagine not even knowing what it feels like to walk on a solid surface? How can we just sit around ignoring the fact that this is going on? As can be seen, puppy mills are horrific and treat dogs inhumanely. I hope that those of you who read this watch this movie or do some research about where you are going to buy your next dog. Always remember, ADOPT DON'T SHOP.
